André Maurice Durenceau was born in 1904 in Auray, France. At the age of 19, he moved in the United States, where he worked as illustrator, artist, muralist and textile designer.

He published in 1928, a portfolio of his printed work called ‘Inspirations, twenty-four plates, with 128 compositions’. Here are details of these 24 plates taken from a rare preserved copy of the book at the New York public library.
